Biennale Kafka / Borges 2014 14th – 17th September 2014, Buenos Aires
The 6th Biennial Borges/Kafka commemorates one hundred years from the birth of two important novelists, Julio Cortázar (Argentina) and Bohumil Hrabal (Czech Republic). The program concentrates on the following topics:
1. Machine and Shadow: The aim is to look at the work and life of the four novelists through perspective of cinema.
2. Epistolary genre: The correspondence of the novelists.
3. Parody and fantasy: The concentration on the texts which question the literary tradition and social history.
Except the lectures the movies “Larks on a string”, “Bohumil Hrabal”, “I served the King of England” and “Closely watched trains” will be projected and, also two exhibitions are installed: “Multiple Kafka” by Jiří Slíva and “The Franz Kafka exhibition”.
Sunday 14th The arrival drink and concert performed by Panocha Quartet Concert representing work of Leoš Janáček and other Czech compositors.
Monday 15th Opening of Biennial by Josefina Delgado and María Kodama Speakers: María Kodama:The letters between Jorge Luis Borges and Victoria Ocampo. Daniela Čapková: Only twelve thousand kilometers divide us. Luisa Valenzuela: Cortázar and Hrabal. Miguel Vitagliano: Las invenciones de la salida: reading of “Rayuela” and “Closely watched trains”. Tomáš Mazal: Literature via Hrabal. Eduardo Rovner: Argentinean theatre in Prague.
Tuesday 16th Speakers: Daniela Uherková: Letters to Milena. Ricardo Manetti: Borges as critic of Argentinean cinema. Josefna Delgado: The letters of Cortázar. Susana Reinoso: The mail and letters. Jana Boková: Bye bye Shangai. Wednesday 17th Speakers: Lucía Vogelfang: Cortázar and Oulipo. Marcela Solá: Borges and Kafka in front of the law. Sylvia Iparraguirre: Cortázar. Carlos Bernatek: Legacy of my Ancestors. Ana Caldeiro y Eugenia Martínez: Pravo: Two Argentinean women in Prague. Zdenko Pavelka: As It was with Dubenka.
